ABOUT TIMOTHY ABBO

Lead Investigator

Caliber Consulting was created by Timothy Abbo, a sworn police officer who has been working in Law Enforcement since 1994. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant with a southeastern Michigan Police Department. Over the course of his career, Mr. Abbo has investigated over 3000 accidents ranging from minor fender benders to those involving multiple fatalities. As a result, Mr. Abbo has been accepted as an Expert Witness in the field of Collision Reconstruction in state courts located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and the U.S. Federal Court System.

We are generally retained by civil litigation attorneys, those in the insurance industry, and anyone who finds our services useful in determining the cause of a collision. We believe that we offer exceptional service in these areas because all of our consultants are sworn law enforcement officers who are out in the field every day applying their knowledge and skills as well as attending continuous training.

SERVICES
COLLISION RECONSTRUCTION
All our consultants have experience in many areas of collision reconstruction, including, but not limited to:

  • Passenger Vehicle Collisions
  • Pedestrian Collisions
  • Bicycle Collisions
  • Bus Collisions
  • Commercial Motor Vehicle Collisions
  • Motorcycle Collisions
  • Truck Collisions

No matter what type of collision is being investigated, our investigators are trained to examine all facets of an incident that may apply to your particular situation, such as; Occupant Kinematics, Damage Profiles, Seat Belt Use, Lamp Examination, Acceleration Tests, Time/Distance Studies, and Visibility Issues.

Our investigators are trained in conducting Vehicle Evaluations and Scene Evaluations. We can prepare court room exhibits using both 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional drawings and be prepared to explain our findings in everyday terms that are easy to understand.

EVENT DATA RECORDER (EDR)
An Event Data Recorder (EDR) is a function or device installed in a motor vehicle to record technical vehicle and occupant information for a brief period of time (seconds, not minutes) before, during and after a crash for the purpose of monitoring and assessing vehicle safety system performance. For instance, EDRs may record: pre-crash vehicle dynamics and system status, driver inputs, vehicle crash signature, restraint usage/deployment status, and post-crash data such as the activation of an automatic collision notification (ACN) system.

Most vehicle EDRs capture data during a significant collision, typically those causing visible damage to the vehicle. As a rule of thumb, if the crash is sufficient to cause the air bags to deploy, the EDR data is usually captured.

Caliber Consultants are trained EDR Technicians and Analysts, meaning that we have the required hardware and software to properly extract and analyze the data contained in the EDR. No matter the location, we will travel to the vehicle involved. By using the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System, we will image or “download” the EDR. We will then analyze and interpret our findings in a way that is easy to understand.

While all vehicles sold in the United States after 2013 are equipped with Event Data Recorders that can be imaged, a number of vehicles manufactured prior to that will not. A quick call to our office will allow us to let you know if the vehicles in your particular case in can be imaged.
